Resonances and fluctuations at SPS and RHIC

چکیده

We perform an analysis of preliminary data on hadron yields and fluctuations within the Statistical hadronization ansatz. We describe the theoretical disagreements between different statistical models currently on the market, and show how the simultaneous analysis of yields and fluctuations can be used to determine if one of them can be connected to underlying physics. We perform such an analysis on preliminary RHIC and SPS A-A data that includes particle yields, ratios and event by event fluctuations. We show that the equilibrium statistical model can not describe the K/π fluctuation measured at RHIC and SPS, unless an unrealistically small volume is assumed. Such small volume then makes it impossible to describe the total particle multiplicity. The non-equilibrium model,on the other hand, describes both the K/π fluctuation and yields acceptably due to the extra boost to the π fluctuation provided by the high pion chemical potential. We show, however, that both models significantly over-estimate the p/π fluctuation measured at the SPS, and speculate for the reason behind this. PACS. 2 5.75.-q,24.60.-k,24.10.Pa

2 00 4 Net Charge and Isospin Fluctuations in the World of Elementary Particles

Charge and isospin event-by-event fluctuations in high-energy pp-collisions are predicted within the Unitary Eikonal Model (UEM), in particular the fluctuation patterns of the ratios of charged-to-charged and neutral-to-charged pions. These fluctuations are found to be sensitive to the presence of unstable resonances, such as ρ and ω mesons. We predict that the charge-fluctuation observable D U ...

A phenomenal number of new results have been presented at this meeting regarding fluctuations and correlations. With the analysis of SPS results for π− π Hanbury-Brown Twiss (HBT) correlations as a function of energy, and with the maturing of the RHIC results, a consistent picture has developed of the evolving dynamics from AGS energies to RHIC. Additionally, several new probes have been analyz...

A statistical model analysis of K/π fluctuations in heavy ion collisions

We briefly describe two statistical hadronization models, based respectively on the presence and absence of light quark chemical equilibrium, used to analyze particle yields in heavy ion collisions. We then try to distinguish between these models using K/π fluctuations data. We find that while the non-equilibrium model provides an acceptable description of fluctuations at top SPS and RHIC energ...

Glauber Monte-Carlo predictions for LHC

In the framework of various Glauber-like models we compute several correlation observables in nuclear collisions at the SPS, RHIC, and LHC energies. We analyze fluctuations of the eccentricity of the fireball created in the collision, in particular the variable-axes harmonic moments ε∗, as well as the fluctuations of multiplicity of charged particles. We find moderate model dependence of the sc...

Photon Multiplicity Measurements : From SPS to RHIC and LHC

Abstract. Results from the photon multiplicity measurements using a fine granularity preshower photon multiplicity detector (PMD) at CERN SPS are discussed. These include study of pseudorapidity distributions of photons, scaling of photon multiplicity with number of participating nucleons, centrality dependence of < pT > of photons, event-by-event fluctuations in photon multiplicity and localis...
